Does anyone know of any groups that help pay for dog surgery?

I have a 1 1/2 year old Golden Ret. mix that I adopted from the animal shelter when she was about 12 wks old. Even at about 4 mos I realized something was wrong with her hips. Our vet took xrays and found severe hip dysplasia. He said to wait until she was about 1 1/2 years old before doing any surgery. I am a teacher who is, like many other teachers, on an "unplanned sabatical"! I cannot afford the surgery, but Holly is getting worse. Are there any groups that help with this sort of problem? We have since moved and I have not gotten a new vet yet ($).
