Why does ready boost lower my WEI?

Good question...I think I'm going to flag this question in case someone comes up with an answer, since Ready Boost is supposed to increase performance (albeit at the sacrifice of a pen drive, since flash memory self destructs after a certain amount of read/write cycles).
